DIRECTION AFTER DIAGNOSIS

MY CHILD HAS A DIAGNOSIS

- NOW WHAT?

A personalised education roadmap for parents who need help turning reports, assessments and school concerns into practical next steps.

You've gathered the answers

But you still don't have a clear plan

You've got reports, attended meetings, searched for answers and tried to support your child the best way you know how. But you still don't have a clear plan.

If you're feeling exhausted, confused or worried about making the wrong decision, you're not alone.

Most parents I meet arrive at my office feeling exactly the same way…

relieved to finally have some answers, but overwhelmed because nobody has explained what those answers actually mean for everyday life and school.

Take a deep breath.

Now let's begin.

HERE'S WHAT'S POSSIBLE INSTEAD

Imagine feeling clear about what comes next

01

Attend school meetings prepared

Know exactly what questions to ask and what support your child needs

02

Understand the support team

Know who needs to be involved and how everyone can work together

03

Have a written plan

Return to it whenever you feel uncertain or need to brief a new teacher

04

Trust your next decision

Know what to do next and why. Instead of lying awake and second-guessing

WHY SO MANY PARENTS FEEL STUCK

A diagnosis doesn't automatically tell you what to do

Most parents expect a diagnosis to bring clarity. Instead, it often leaves them cycling through many emotions including fear and anxiety.

But a diagnosis is not the end of the story.

Nothing has changed and your child is still the same wonderful person they were yesterday. A diagnosis simply hands you a key to understanding them a bit better.

When you know more about what that information means, you can make decisions based on your child's strengths, needs and potential.

A diagnosis is information - not a life sentence

A diagnosis doesn't tell you:

  • what your child needs in the classroom

  • which strategies will actually help

  • what questions to ask the school

  • whether current support is enough

  • what decisions need to be made next

THAT'S WHY I CREATED

The Direction After Diagnosis Parent Support Package

You do not have to become an expert overnight.

Together, we'll make sense of everything you've already been told and turn it into a practical plan for your child.

Think of me as your child's educational case manager - someone who helps connect the dots between assessments, school feedback, therapists and your own observations.

Be gentle with yourself as you are with your child.

WHO THIS PACKAGE IS DESIGNED FOR

Is this the right next step for your family?

Not every family needs this level of support, and that's okay.

This package is for you if:

  • You already have a diagnosis or a label, and you're still stuck on what it actually means.

  • There are concerns coming from the school but no one's told you what's really going on yet.

  • You've read the reports, attended the meetings, and still don't feel any clearer about what your child needs.

  • You want clarity before making any big decisions like moving schools or getting a second opinion.

  • You want an independent voice advocating alongside you.

This package is NOT for you if:

  • You need a formal psychoeducational diagnosis for medical aid or exam accommodations. If that's what your child needs first, I'll tell you directly and refer you to the right professional.

  • You're looking for long-term personal counselling or psychological therapy. My focus is educational strategy, coaching, and practical action planning.

HOW THE PARENT SUPPORT PACKAGE WORKS

Three simple steps.

I'll guide you through each one.

This package gives you a clearer understanding of your child's needs and a practical plan you can confidently take forward

01

SESSION 1: 30-45 MIN

Unpack

We meet, in person or online. We go through the history, the frustrations, the reports, and everything you've already tried.

Tell me everything that's worrying you about your child.

02

BETWEEN SESSIONS

Behind the Scenes

You upload your existing reports to a secure folder. I review the documentation, look for the patterns schools often miss, and with your permission, consult with teachers or therapists involved. I build a plan that works for your family.

03

SESSION 2: 30-45 MIN

Roadmap

We reconvene and I'll go through the findings, help you to prioritise what actually matters right now, and finalise your tailored action plan. Whatever this road holds, I will walk beside you.

WHAT YOU WALK AWAY WITH

Something you can actually use

  • A written summary - total clarity on your child's learning profile, in plain language.

  • A practical roadmap - immediate priorities, home strategies, and the exact questions to take back to the school.

  • Immediate action - something you can have control on, refer back to, or hand to a teacher or therapist.

This is me

Hi, I'm Philippa Fabbri

I'm not only an education specialist, but I also know what it feels like to worry about your own children. As the mom of two boys who experienced their own struggles within the school system, I understand how deeply these challenges affect the whole family.

My experience as a teacher, remedial therapist and co-founder of Elsen Academy has shown me that children don't struggle because they lack ability. They struggle when the support around them doesn't fit.

My focus as an academic coach is to help children who find learning a challenge, and to build a learning pathway that actually suits them.

I work closely with parents of neurodivergent children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and other learning differences — parents who need guidance specific to their child, not generic advice.

Why this work matters to me

This short excerpt from a recent parent presentation offers a glimpse of who I am, how I approach my work, and why supporting parents through this journey matters so much to me.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PARENTS GET CLARITY

Parents feel less alone - and more able to act

"Our journey, like many other parents, was filled with uncertainty about where to turn and what steps to take, but the support from Philippa made it clear that moving schools was the best decision we ever made."

"To other parents on similar journeys: a supportive and proactive approach can make all the difference. You are doing an amazing job and your efforts truly matter."

— Dawn Scott

"Taking the package with Philippa has been truly life-changing. As a parent of a child with autism, I often felt overwhelmed and unsure of how best to support my son through school, therapy and everyday life. Philippa's deep experience, warmth and incredible depth of knowledge provided not just practical tools, but a renewed sense of hope.

She is thorough, compassionate, and truly understands the nuances of autism. Her guidance has helped me feel more confident advocating for my son and giving him the best chance to thrive. I can't thank her enough."

— Lise Kiin

"Thank you so much for your help and all the extra work you have done beyond the consultation. I value your work. We are so grateful to have found a team of people willing to work together, and quickly, to help us.

— Jucintha

"It was reassuring to be in an environment with other parents who are walking a similar path. What I realised is how often we simply need someone to help keep us moving forward, and Philippa came across as one of those people who is there to guide and support others when they don't know where to turn.

Philippa, thank you for all that you do to support families navigating this path. You certainly make the road a little easier, and I know you are the person parents can turn to when they are unsure of what to do next or which direction to take."

— Kim

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you book

Is this just another assessment that I'll need someone else to explain to me?

No. By the end of Session 2 you'll already understand what's going on and what to do next — there's no follow-up appointment needed to decode it.

My job is to listen, to figure out what's really causing the stress in your child's day-to-day, and to be honest with you about what's working and what isn't. Talking it through with you is how we find what's missing, and build a plan from there.

What can I expect from working with you?

Two one-on-one sessions, plus a written summary you keep — no jargon, no vague reassurance, just what's actually going on and what to do about it.

  • Session 1: Tell me everything that's worrying you about your child. We go through everything — the reports, the frustrations, what you've already tried.

  • Between sessions: I do the work — reviewing what's been shared, identifying the patterns schools often miss.

  • Session 2: We go through the findings together and build a plan that works for your family.

  • You get: A written summary with clear, practical recommendations — something you can act on, refer back to, or share with a teacher.

Many parents say they feel lighter, relieved and clearer after this session.

What if I'm still waiting for a diagnosis?

If an assessment is the next step, I'll help you understand which professional is best suited to your child's needs so you can avoid unnecessary expense and delays.

What should I bring along with me?

You're welcome to send everything ahead of time, or bring examples of your child's schoolwork, reports, or previous assessments with you.

How long is each session?

Each session runs 30–45 minutes. If we need more time, we can always continue on WhatsApp or email.

What if my child has multiple diagnoses?

Many children have more than one diagnosis. During our sessions, we'll look at the whole picture rather than treating each diagnosis separately. Together we'll decide what needs attention first and what can wait.

What if my child is already seeing therapists?

Having several professionals involved can sometimes feel overwhelming. I help you understand each person's role, identify gaps, and make sure everyone is working towards the same goals for your child.

What if I disagree with the school?

It is important that you feel heard and your concerns validated. Not all schools are equipped to manage learners with complex challenges. As the case manager, I would hear both sides of the story and make recommendations keeping the child’s best interests at heart.

What if my spouse can't attend?

The option is to arrange an online meeting if one of the parents is unable to attend in person. A summary of the first discussion can also be sent to both parents if requested.

Where do the sessions take place?

My office is in Walmer, Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha, but I very often consult online via Google Meet — which makes things easier if you travel a lot or struggle to take time off work.

Does my child need to attend these sessions?

Entirely up to you. If we're discussing sensitive matters, it might be better to meet separately. High schoolers sometimes prefer to attend and see what it's all about — but the choice is yours.

How do I book the sessions?

TidyCal shows my live availability, so you can book directly. Your booking secures a dedicated time slot and ensures the session is focused entirely on your concerns. Need to reschedule? That's no problem, in advance.

What if there are no open slots available?

Email me directly and we'll find a time that works for us both.
